In the center of three famous trails, the Gnadenau, the Santa Fe, and the Chisholm, Hillsboro is located in the south central part of the state.  Hillsboro is well-known for German heritage as well as the Hillsboro Arts & Crafts Fair.  The fair is one of the largest in the Midwest and routinely attracts several hundred vendors and tens of thousands of shoppers.  Hillsboro also hosts a Folk Festival in May and the Marion County Fair each summer.   

Hillsboro is also home to Tabor College, which was founded in 1908 by members of the Mennonite Brethren and Krimmer Mennonite Brethren Christian churches. Tabor is a four-year Christian liberal arts institution. 

Memorial Park offers playground equipment and picnic areas, and the city also has a municipal swimming pool, a 9-hole golf course, multiple ball fields, tennis courts, and other sporting venues.  The wealth of sporting venues has allowed them to build a history of successful school sports teams.
