Junction City is located in east central Kansas on Interstate 70 Highway. Junction City adjoined to the Fort Riley military installation, which is home of the 1st Infantry Division (also known as the “Big Red One”).  Central National Bank was started in Junction City in 1884; the bank now has six branches in the community.

Being so close to Fort Riley, Junction City commemorates and honors the U.S. Military.  Heritage Park includes a fountain, an arch in memory of the Civil War and a Vietnam War Memorial in honor of Kansans who lost their lives fighting in Vietnam. 

Other attractions in and around Junction City include: Milford Lake for boating, fishing, and camping, the Historic Opera House for plays and musical performances, and the Historic Bartell Hotel where John Wayne once stayed.  Junction City also hosts the largest free Fourth of July celebration in the state of Kansas.  The city is home to the Junction City Generals, a summer college league baseball team.
