Beloit CourthouseIn the center of what was once a stopping point on the Santa Fe, Oregon, and California trails, Gardner is on the eastern border of Kansas. Early settlers of Gardner were all Free State men, which led to one of the first Free State Conventions in the country being held in Gardner, KS. One of Gardner's attractions is the Gardner Historical Museum. The Gardner Historical Museum provides an extensive history on the settlement of Gardner.

Gardner holds several festivals and events throughout the year. The Johnson County Fair is one of the larger events. This eight day fair includes animal shows, ranging from horses to rabbits, a carnival, bands, food, and other activities. The Parks & Recreation Department also has several holiday and special events each year, and provide competitive and social sports for all ages.
